Best Things To Do in Sayulita
Enjoy the waves and learn surfing
Sayulita is renowned for its fantastic surf. The town’s consistent waves make it an ideal spot for surf enthusiasts of all levels. If you’re a beginner, numerous surf schools in the area can help you catch your first wave, while experienced surfers will find plenty of challenging breaks.
Explore nearby San Pancho / San Francisco
A short drive or leisurely walk from Sayulita, you’ll find San Pancho (also known as San Francisco). This tranquil coastal village offers a change of pace with its laid-back atmosphere, pristine beaches, and cultural experiences. Stroll through the streets, visit local art galleries, and savor authentic Mexican dishes at the charming eateries. Especially the main street Av. Tercer Mundo has lots of charming cafes, shops and restaurants to enjoy drinks and food. There are colectivo services between Sayulita and San Pancho or alternatively you can also hail an Uber or taxi to bring you there and back.
Live like a digital nomad
If you’re a digital nomad or remote worker, Sayulita has got you covered with several coworking spaces. Enjoy the perfect blend of work and leisure in a tropical paradise. Sayulita’s relaxed environment and vibrant community of other digital nomads make it an excellent choice for remote work. I particularly liked Selina Hostel where you find a top shared office space with fast WiFi, meeting rooms and a phone booth if you need to take calls.
How to get to Sayulita
Getting to Sayulita is very easy and convenient, especially if you’re traveling from Puerto Vallarta. You have two primary options:
- Take an Uber: The convenience of Uber ensures a comfortable journey from Puerto Vallarta to Sayulita. It will take about 35-40 minutes and will cost you around 500-600MXN (~25-30USD).
- Take a Bus: If you prefer a more affordable, you can take a bus that connects the two towns. The ride is longer than the Uber and will take you around 1-1.5 hours (depending on traffic), but it is a lot cheaper (~55MXN). This makes it a great option for solo travelers. The buses run from 6am until 10pm every 20 minutes. Buses to Sayulita typically have the big letters “Compostela” on them and have a sign on the windshield that says Sayulita.
Where to stay in Sayulita
Staying slightly outside the city center allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of the town while still being within walking distance of all the attractions. Especially at night it can get a bit noisy around the main streets as many tourists head home to their accommodations after a few drinks in the bars.
For a more relaxing stay in Sayulita, San Pancho is a highly recommended choice. The serene atmosphere and easy access to Sayulita make San Pancho an excellent base for your visit. I really loved it there and would definitely stay in San Pancho next time I visit the area.
While Sayulita has more accommodation options, San Pancho is a lot smaller and has less options to stay. Hence, I strongly recommend to check booking.com and airbnb ahead of your stay to book your accommodation in time.
Where to eat in Sayulita
Sayulita is a food lover’s paradise with really a lot of good dining options to explore. Some eateries I have tried and liked include:
- YAH YAH Sayulita Cafe: A charming cafe with good bread and artisanal coffee.
- Barracuda: Located close to the beach and offering fresh seafood and fish options.
- Mary’s: Famous for its tacos and mouthwatering Mexican street food.
- ORGANI-K: A health-conscious choice with a variety of organic and vegetarian options.
- Naty’s Kitchen: A local favorite serving authentic Mexican cuisine with a twist.
